June 9 Update
We are happy to announce that the governor of West Virginia is allowing overnight camps to open June 22nd. We have been preparing for several months for this announcement, and now we are in overdrive to create a fun and safe summer for our campers. We will be reaching out to you with COVID-19 protocols for the summer. There will be changes to our procedures but not to the fun.

Please look for our standard reminder emails as well as the emails explaining our COVID-19 procedures.

We cannot wait to see your daughters this summer!

June 1 Update
It is with great sadness that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our Mini-Camp and June Riding Camp sessions which were scheduled to start on June 21, 2020. We are waiting for the state of West Virginia to issue guidelines that will allow us to operate Camp. Based on guidelines from, among others, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Camp Association, and several other states, we believe that we can run a safe and fun program this summer. We need West Virginia to issue similar protocols.

At this time, we have not canceled our subsequent sessions. We have counselors, facilities and horses ready to go once we get the approval from the state. We are continuing to monitor the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic on a daily basis.

May 30 Update
As of May 28th, we are still waiting for answers from the state. We hope to hear within the next few days. In the meantime, we are waiving our cancellation policy. June 1st is no longer a deadline for canceling. Thank you for your patience. We have enough things in place at camp now and plans for the next several weeks, that we will not need a lot of time to open camp once the state gives permission.

The last time we posted, we thought we were getting closer to answers. To say things have changed from day to day would be an understatement. Thursday night May 14th, the CDC published guidelines that would allow camps, especially overnight camps, to operate in a safe manner this summer. Additionally, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia indicated that camps could open this summer. The State of West Virginia has also said camps can open. All of those decisions are based on protocols and procedures being in place to minimize risk to everyone. We have been in communication with the ACA, health departments, other camps, and experts to develop a plan that would allow us to run camp in a safe manner. We still need approval and guidance from West Virginia. The state appears to be amenable to operating camp with safety protocols in place, but nothing is finalized. As we stated, things are changing every day.

We continue our commitment to being transparent with our camp families; you will be the first to know of any further policy adjustments, schedule changes, and new information. As we said before, we are extending this deadline not because we know what makes the most sense, but precisely because we are still finalizing plans. We do have a better idea of policies and procedures that we will implement to satisfy the CDC guidelines at a minimum. The health of West Virginia residents has been minimally impacted by COVID-19, and the state wants to get back to business. We will only do so if it is safe.

We have hired more American staff as we assume that our international staff will not be able to come this summer. Our barn heads are at Camp riding our horses. Our maintenance staff is prepping our facilities.

We continue to be bolstered by news that the stringent requirements for people to stay at home and self-restrict movement flattened the curve and that we may be well past the worst of this by the time camp opens. We hope that the modifications of stay at home orders do not lead to overwhelming our health system.

We are hoping for the best (Camp is open and the summer is awesome) and preparing for the worst (Camp or some portion of Camp is canceled, and our hearts are broken).
Stay safe and try to do something kind for someone every day.
